NYTimes today publishes pictures of Prince Harry in the battlefield of Afghanistan. The pictures are published at the time when Harry has been withdrew and back to his home sweet home. Prince Harry has been at the Helmand Province since December. His duty is in the battlefield air controller. I’m quite surprised to see all those pictures, showing that Harry was in action, wearing his uniform and all the equipments and weapons, talking to another army, playing soccer. This is however, raising a big question. How can the Kingdom’s generation be this down-to-earth? Where is all the exclusiveness and the arrogance of the Kingdom?
This case has rung a bell. A year ago, the son of Indonesia’s President was also sent to the battlefield. He was on his duty for the UN mission. Agus Yudhoyono went to Lebanon as the part of Indonesian Army. The media exposed that Agus would not be treated with any special treatment. Everyone in the battlefield should face the same situation and should be treated as the same persons. His big duty there is to establish the DMZ, avoid confrontation, monitor and investigate every movements there.
The common thing from these two stories is that the media couldn’t report the day-by-day activities of those kids. In fact, the news reporter would not willing to risk his life for this sort of issue. The news media is more focus on the war, the interest, the actor, better than who is on the war at that time. The news journalists are of course different with the infotainment journalists who are always be ready to sacrifice their lives for the famous star hottest news’ sake. Even though they’re now very interested to follow every single movement of the new star, Barrack Obama.
Anyway, back to the issue. This news has made me curious. Can those two kids really survive in a dangerous battlefield without any guardian angels around them? If so, then why do they always need special treatment and bodyguards following them inside of their own country? What should they be afraid of?
